       Hello, and welcome to Black Dog Ranch! We are a small, but wonderful place. Come and dream, ponder, and experience what I never thought would be mine... and the wonderful world of llamas!

       Black Dog Ranch is a dream come true. I worked for 18 years for Llama Woods Farm, and learned a great deal about my favorite creatures - llamas. We learned together from the ground up. I began working for Iris Christ when she got her first 2 geldings in 1981, and what a life changing experience it has been!

       Come and meet some of my "kids". I'm fortunate to have some of the legendary girls of LWF! Minuette, featured at the top of this page, is a miracle gal. Orphaned at only one month old, she became the pet of everyone on the farm. We all worked 24/7 trying to save her mom for 2 weeks before she died. Min went on to win the first Celebrity Futurity in 1995. Her daughter, Mignon, won the Futurity in 1997 and the Maturity in 2000. And now Mignon's full brother is shaping up to be the next Champ! He's a real ham already. Mignon was bought by Cindy and Bon Burgess at the 2000 Celebrity. They saw the promise, the potential, and the future when they bought her. It hurt to let her go, but it was to good folks. And believe me, no one would have bought that girl from me unless I was certain that they would be practically bowing to her.

       LW Strawberry Jam is another legend. A great appy girl that has a super personality. I love her way too much. Even as a cria in 1989, she and her dam, Strawberry Shortcake, were among my favorites. Jam is an excellent dam and a charming character. She likes to entertain us by running with the babies, even though she is over 10 years old. She has produced Strawberry Fields (McRoberts), and Strawbridge (R. Patterson), Strawberry Cream (me), Strawberry Bon Bon and more. If there is a Strawberry "someone", it's probably hers, or one of her grandcrias.

    Some of my other girls include;
  • Bolivian Very Vanilla, dam to Van Gogh (2nd place Futurity young male class), Runaround Sue (purchased at the Spring Celebrity by the Throgmortons), and her newest, Big Bad John.
  • Bolivian Sweet Cream, dam to LW Shannon (Throgmortons), Sweet Babette (1st in the Consolation Futurity in 2000), and the killer baby from LW Etienne. See him at the Futurity 2001!
  • Bolivian Tutti Fruitti, dam of LW Tolstoy (Mary and Norbert Smith, he was the second highest selling male behind Gucci at the 1998 LW sale), Shiver Me Timbers (co-owned by myself and Rod and Nancy Hildebrand), and the next knockout, Great Balls Of Fire, sired by Bolivian Red.

       I also have studs I'm very proud of. The indomitable Willie K is just one of them. This guy has produced many fine offspring and is still very willing to spend time with the ladies, but his sons are taking over most of that pleasure here. Willie still has a wonderful life and is loved and honored for the special fella he is. You'll eventually see more about his sons and my other males on my stud page.

       2004 UPDATE: Willie died on 12-30-03 at the age of 21. All the females came to his stall and told him good-bye. It was just amazing and touching, and we all miss him very much!

       My computer also died, so please feel free to call me for a current sales list of my llamas.
